Serio’s Market! Where customers are friends and friends come by and play music! First, unfortunately, Gary has some bad news for anyone who was looking forward to one of his hamburgers today. We talk to director Martin Shell about this weekend’s production of The Voysey Inheritance. Ward 3 Councilor Bob Reckman and Ward 3 Neighborhood Association President Gerry Budgar talk about their upcoming forum regarding the override. And Jim Armenti and Ray Mason of The Lonesome Brothers rock the aisles, with a little help from Lucy.

May 25, 26, 27, 28…

Yes, I’m a bit behind.

May 28 - Who’s sticking up for the poor oppressed white guy? They’ve suffered so much for so long. Meanwhile, Paki Wieland is going back to Gaza, and there’s a fundraiser to help her and some other human rights activists to get there. Phil Korman of CISA comes in with John LaSalle of LaSalle Florists.

May 27 - We welcome some radio refugees, and chat about court shenanigans. We talk to Chris Sikes of Western Mass Enterprise Fund about strengthening communities by helping local business. Local author Lee Wicks also comes in to talk about her new novel, which boasts an oddly named character.

May 26 - Bill and Jaz are waiting to hear about Obama’s Supreme Court pick, AND California’s Supreme Court’s decision of the same-sex marriage ban (we thought the waiting was the hardest part, until we heard California’s decision). Tim Carpenter of Progressive Democrats of America is hoping to meet with Congressman Richard Neal to talk about single-payer health care. And Chris Matera of Massachusetts Forest Watch is concerned about the rush for biomass plants.

May 25 - It’s Memorial Day! Bill’s kinda cranky and Jaz ate way too much at her friend’s BBQ yesterday. We talk to Iraqi vet Tyler Boudreau and artist Matt Mitchell about an upcoming arts event, and also Tyler’s upcomg cross country bike ride. And musician Matt Krefting has a new CD.

That Bill - he’s a ladykiller. Unlike Dick Cheney, who is just a lady torturer. Or, just torturer, period.

We talk to Northampton Mayor Clare Higgins, who presented the 2010 City Budget last night, and talks about the upcoming override vote.

Bill recounts a recent run-in with a certain commentator that recalls a certain season of “Dallas.” Which makes two “Dallas” references in one day. We talk to Steve Strimer and Emikan Sudan about the upcoming Sojourner Truth Celebration, which will include details about the David Ruggles Center. And then Rob Ostberg, co-host of Taxes and Assets, has some interesting statistics about the house he grew up in here in Northampton.

There was just way too much show today. My word. First, Bill and Jaz agree to disagree about Star Trek. Then we make everyone feel better about their writing skills with a very special poem. We talk to Andrew Varnon about the strange tale of his Poet’s Chair. And then we chat with Bill’s trainer, Lynne Marie Wanamaker, about the trials and tribulations of training Bill.

Postcards from Andrew’s chair:

May 18 and 19, 2009

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Yeah, I wasn’t here yesterday, so some things didn’t get done. Like the podcast. And the video. That’s okay. It makes me feel needed. But I’m sorry if you were kept waiting…

Today, May 19th, Bill recalls the one commencement speech he remembers. And it certainly is memorable. Then we talk to Ben James of Town Farm about today’s season premiere of the Tuesday Market. We also talk to Daily Hampshire Gazette writer Bob Flaherty about some questionable fashion decisions, and some questionable marketing decisions.

Yesterday, May 18 - Chris drives the bus (and the sound buttons), and Bill talks graduations. He also learns from his LA correspondent Tommy Saunders what could be worse than earthquakes, wildfires, and tsunamis. Plus, Northampton Economic Coordinator Teri Anderson and Pioneer Valley Planning Commissioner Dana Roscoe come in to talk about high speed rail.

Honestly, people…STOP oppressing Bill with your agreements to better your own lives. We wake up Bill’s friend Tommy Saunders in LA to ask him why on earth he’d live in such a dangerous place. And writer and blogger Sarah Buttenwieser stops in to discuss bigotry. And babies.

It’s time for another review about what the “equal” in “equal rights” actually means. Then Bill reviews some torture he underwent yesterday at the hands of his trainer, who may or may not have had special CIA training. We also check in with Monte and Scooter at Trailside Bicycles for the Hadley breakfast for Pioneer Valley Bike Week.

In her continuing series of discussing benefits for people in these difficult times, Attorney Elizabeth Silver talks to us about The Stavros Center for Independent Living, allowing people with disabilities to remain in their homes. For more info about the Stavros Center, call (413) 256-0473 or (800) 804-1899. To contact Elizabeth, call (413) 582-1827.

And finally, our wonderful dietitian Diane Walker stops in to find out why Bill gained four pounds this week (actually, my theory - which I think was proven - is that Bill was retaining water from his procedure) while Chris and Jaz have been steadily losing weight. She also offers more advice and resources.

Bill hauled all our equipment by bike from the parking garage to the Courthouse lawn so that we could broadcast live from the Northampton breakfast for Pioneer Valley Bike Commute Week (you can watch the video below…). We talk to Dorothy Baumann from Trailside Bicycles, Realtor and bikeway crusader Craig Della Penna, Ruthy Woodring of Pedal People (who helped Bill with the whole equipment hauling thing), and James Lowenthal, president of the Pioneer Valley chapter of Mass Bike.

Bill hauls the equipment - WARNING! Bill says a bad word in this video!

Check out the scene at the Bike Week Breakfast! That’s Sweaty Buttons performing…

It’s “WHMP - News, Too Much Information, and the Arts,” as Bill discusses his “procedure” yesterday. Then we talk torture, civil liberties and swine flu with ACLU attorney Bill Newman (who gave as that “too much information” line - nice one, Bill!). We also listen to his new feature on WHMP: The ACLU First Amendment Minute.

Then our arts maven Michael Kusek hips us to all that is hot and happening in the Valley and beyond.
