Yay! Thanksgiving! Yikes! Family! Bill and Jaz have some ideas for coping (guess what Bill’s idea involves). We also talk to former Channel 40 news director Durham Caldwell about his new novel.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

So much craziness, so little time: gay Massachusetts Republicans. A Roman Catholic priest who wants to be a politician. Ordinary citizens being magically transformed into sheep when they utter a ritualistic phrase that sounds remarkably like the city councilor oath of office. Plus, Jack Downing and Mike Hagmaier of Soldier On tell us what they’re doing to help homeless veterans - and what you can do, too.

Speaking of helping people - another thing you can do to help the Northampton Survival Center? Watch the video.

Oh, and here’s some more info about helping the hungry for Thanksgiving:

MANNA Soup Kitchen will deliver fresh-cooked holiday dinners on Thanksgiving Day to folks who are homebound or unable to get to a holiday dinner. Deliveries will be made to Northampton, Florence and Leeds. To place an order for a turkey dinner, call Iris at the Salvation Army this week Monday through Wednesday from 9 AM to 3 PM. You can reach her at 413-586-5299.

Volunteer drivers will deliver the dinners Thanksgiving Day morning. A festive turkey dinner for all in need of food and fellowship will be served from noon until 2:00 PM Thanksgiving Day in the downstairs social hall at Edwards Church.

Bill and Rachel Maddow talk whiskey. And the trials of terrorist masterminds. Plus, Rachel imitates whiny people, and Bill imitates Jimmies Cagney AND Stewart (do you know how hard it was to NOT type “Lacey” just now?). Also, MEEP!

We’re live at Serio’s Market, where customers are friends and friends are customers - and the walk-in is filled with fresh, local turkeys for Thanksgiving! Sarah Smith from Safe Passage has some updates on the Hot Chocolate Run. We talk to Kat Dunn about the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign…and a little bit about roller derby. (If you’d like to volunteer for the Red Kettle campaign, call 413-586-5243.) Also in the house - Eric Bennett, a purveyor of penguins, and a recent transplant to Northampton. Finally, the Mike Hooker Experience rocks the aisles.

Apparently the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife was feeling a little ignored, so they decided to whip up a little controversy to get your attention.

Kitty Callaghan of the Northampton Living Wage Coalition comes in to talk about the resolution that will be going before the city council tomorrow night.

Artist Rob Pruitt’s work is currently being shown in conjunction with the Andy Warhol exhibit at the UMass Fine Arts Center. Rob will be giving a talk tonight, and we get a little preview on the show. And Bill doesn’t challenge him to an iPhone duel.

Also, Jaz seems to have unicorns on the brain. What’s up with that? I have no idea.

Due to being out last week, I didn’t get a chance to post some of the shows on the blog. So now they get their due.

11/12: Barney Frank is getting an award from area Democrats - we talk to some of them about why. Also, Lexie Barnes comes in to talk Twist - the coolest craft fair around. Finally, Jeannine Haas and Julie Waggoner are getting up to some mischief onstage….

11/13: Happy Friday the 13th! No bad luck here - we’ve got people bringing us chocolate! We chat to the organizers of the 16th Annual Chocolate Dessert Buffet & Silent Auction. Also Mary Serreze of Northampton Media talks about her vision for new media in Northampton.

Swine flu survivor Chris Collins talks about Wednesday night’s WHMP forum on the issues around H1N1 (and thankfully does not go into gruesome detail about his ordeal). Sarah Buttenwieser wonders why women were sacrificed for health care. And Nancy Talanian of “No More Guantanamos” talks about the recent Amherst decision that sparked death threats.

Today we’re broadcasting from the surface of the sun! Actually, it just feels that way, because the heat’s gone all kerflooey in the building. Luckily, Northampton Planning Director Wayne Feiden is used to taking heat. He comes in to talk about some of the current hot button issues here in the city. Then Chris Rohmann and Jan Whitaker tell us about this weekend’s Write Angles writers’ conference.

Happy Veteran’s Day. We chat with our own Bill Scher about the stupid Stupak amendment tied to the health care reform bill that just passed the House. Then, Jaime Michaels and director Wendy Jo Carlton discuss Wendy Jo’s film Hannah Free, which will be shown as part of the Out! for Reel film series this Friday.
